Hello Friends!!!

Audra Nelson LM, CPM, MS, RD

Primary Midwife

As long as I can remember I have had the passion to help families have a positive birth experience. This started when I was 10 years old when I witnessed my sister’s birth and the power my mother exuded while laboring at home. From that day, a fire was born that shared an ancestral tie connected to my great grandmother who was a traditional midwife in the deep south. I am married to a courageous man who overwhelmingly believes in my dreams and aspirations. I am also privileged to be the mother of 3 adventurous children.

I had my little girl in the comfort of our home, and it is the best decision we ever made. I was heard, I was seen and most of all I was empowered throughout my entire pregnancy and birth. I had always been extremely tired in my previous pregnancies and my midwife reviewed my labs and offered an individual recommendation that awakened my world and changed my postpartum period for the best.  I want to empower others just as I was empowered. I want to involve partners and families in care because it takes a village.

Prior to becoming a midwife, I was a birth assistant, birth and postpartum doula, and childbirth educator. I also have my Master’s in Nutrition Science and a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist specializing in neonatal and pediatric nutrition. I believe food is medicine and nutrition therapy can be used to treat the whole body and prepare you for your birth.

I have a deep respect for the normalcy of birth and uniqueness of each childbearing person and family. I have personally been in or supported others in all birth settings & situations, but there is something about the beauty of a home birth. The ability to move unrestrictedly in the space that is yours, absorbing the familiar smells from your kitchen, wearing your own clothes, and eating your own food. I believe that everyone deserves to have the birth they desire, and this shouldn’t be limited by a lack of finances or providers.

Before becoming a Certified Professional Midwife, she served as an experienced birth doula and photographer, as well as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. Becoming a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) was a natural step in her career path. Her desire to be able to care for families in a more intimate and specific way led me to become a midwife.
